Swimmers’ shampoo is one of the go-to products avid swimmers use to win the battle against chlorine. Read on and we’ll show you two great swimmers’ shampoos as well as some other products you may want to try.

Does your hair feel dry and crunchy? Are you wondering how some avid swimmers are able to keep their hair looking terrific while yours looks like the stereotypical “swimmers’ hair”? Maybe you’ve thought to yourself, “They have magic hair that looks beautiful no matter what happens to it?”

You’ve come to the right place. No, these swimmers don’t have magic hair. Read on and learn how you can keep your hair looking good AND be an avid swimmers as well.

Chlorine is the most widely used sanitizer for swimming pools. It’s inexpensive and effective. One one hand it’s great at keeping our swimming pool water clean, on the other hand it damages swimmers’ hair and skin.

It’s the negative side of chlorine that swimmers have to battle with. The lingering chlorine odor, the drying effects of chlorine that causes crunchy hair and dry skin are the things you have probably experienced.

First and foremost, we make products that neutralize chlorine. Some products attempt to use harsh chemicals to strip the chlorine away from your hair and skin, but we’ve taken a different approach. Instead, we use ingredients that reduce chlorine and gently wash it away. It’s a better approach because the swimming pool contains enough chemicals without having to deal with more harsh chemicals once you get out of it.

Chlorine Damages Your Hair

Chlorine is a harsh chemical and swimming pools are slightly alkaline. This wreaks havoc with your hair. First the alkaline environment causes your hair follicle to lift. This exposes the shaft of your hair to the chlorinated water. The chlorine can then wash over and attach to your hair shaft and strips away the natural oils of your hair. This combination causes what is called “swimmers’ hair”. When your hair is in this condition, it feels rough and breaks easily.

The dry, brittle and crunchy hair is what the stereotypical swimmer looks like. But it’s not necessary to look like that anymore.

Our Swimmers’ Shampoo Gently Removes Chlorine

Our swimmers’ shampoo contains the chlorine neutralizing ingredients as we mentioned before, and is made to be very gentle so it won’t create any further damage to your hair. If you follow with our swimmers’ conditioner and swimmers’ styling products you will find that your hair will stay looking and feeling great no matter how often you swim.

Here are two products that are great for swimmers. Use the ELITE line if you are swimming more than 5 times a week and the Goodbye Chlorine line if you are swimming up to 5 times a week. They are very similar products, but the ELITE line is made for people who are in the swimming pool more frequently. See our buyer’s guide to view all of our product brands.

How Avid Swimmers Keep Their Hair Looking Good (and what shampoo they use)

swimmers hair looking good

If you are an avid swimmer, undoubtedly you have felt the damaging effects of chlorine. You’re not alone. Chlorine seems to have a way of just hanging around when you don’t want it to, and the accumulation of chlorine is incredibly drying to your hair and skin.

This accumulation of chlorine makes your hair feel rough. The science behind this is that the chlorine is alkaline and causes your hair cuticle to lift exposing the hair shaft. Then your hair shaft is exposed to chlorine and more chlorine attaches (and removes the oil from your hair). The combination of the hair cuticle lifting and the chlorine drying your hair is what makes your hair brittle and feel rough.

Using strong chemicals like cheating shampoos only make your hair feel worse. The reason is, these types of shampoos attempt to strip the chlorine from your hair. When you hair is in this fragile state, using these types of strong chemicals is a mistake if you wish to fix your hair.
